I always have a passion for education and found that I have a certain affinity with it ever since I volunteered in the reading programme when I was in Primary 6, as I helped lower primary students with their English.
My formal teaching experience included teaching speech and drama to secondary schools as well as teaching primary school English for a year when I was in junior college. I have also taught at NUS as a teaching assistant in the philosophy department, and have undergone a teaching assistant training programme offered by the Centre for Development of Teaching & Learning at NUS.
Since then, I have brief working experiences in the communications, editorial, education, and performing arts industries. As such, I believe I have the right skill sets to help students to improve their English and writing skills. Furthermore, my training in philosophy would be especially useful for those who need more help in argumentative writing.
I see my classes as complementing whatever is learnt at school. My main goal is not merely to help the student score well in their exams, but to develop a certain love of language which will help them in the long run. I believe that tailoring one's lessons to merely do well for the next test is myopic, and the lessons will be quickly forgotten. But once someone has an interest in how language works, regardless of how weak they are, they would be self-motivated to improve.
I am currently only offering online classes, but will consider face-to-face classes if you reside in the western part of Singapore.
